What are Cleft Lips and Palates?
A cleft lip and/or palate is a birth condition where a baby’s lip or mouth doesn't fully form in utero, leaving an opening that can cause serious health and social problems. Children with clefts often struggle with basic needs like eating, breathing, and speaking. In many parts of the world, safe surgery and follow-up care are unavailable or unaffordable, leaving millions of children without the help they need to live healthy, confident lives.

Youth for Global Smiles
Youth for Global Smiles is a student-led chapter supporting Smile Train’s work enabling free cleft care worldwide. Founded and run by passionate high school students in Maryland, our members work to raise awareness, educate our community, and fundraise for children with clefts. Through events, meetings, and creative outreach, we aim to turn compassion into action, one smile at a time.
