What is a cleft lip and palate? 

A cleft lip or palate is a birth condition where a baby’s lip or the roof of their mouth doesn’t fully form. This can cause difficulties with eating, breathing, speaking, and hearing, which can affect self-esteem.

How does this chapter support Smile Train?

Our chapter raises awareness about cleft conditions, hosts fundraisers, and educates the community to support Smile Train’s work of sponsoring life-changing cleft care for children in need.

Are all my donations going to Smile Train?

Yes. 100% of the donations collected through our chapter are sent directly to Smile Train to fund surgeries and comprehensive cleft care. We do not keep or use any portion of the funds for personal or local use.

Who can join this chapter?

7th-12th grade students residing in Maryland can join. We welcome all students who want to make a difference; there is no experience needed! You can join by filling out our interest form, which is linked in the "Join" page.

Where does the money we raise go?

The money goes directly to Smile Train, where they help provide medical care, speech therapy, nutritional support, and more to children with clefts all around the world.

Where/When are the meetings held?

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at Miller Branch Library, 9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042 from 5-6pm.

What do members do?

Members have opportunities plan and participate in fundraisers and events, as well as collaborating with other students, schools, and organizations

What do I do if I am unable to attend the meetings?

We will send out an email of all members of the material covered that meeting.
